If you have noticed recently some websites, like Youtube, comes with a “Fullscreen” button and upon clicking, it launches the site in fullscreen instantly and fills your entire screen, with an option to hit <Esc> to return to normal mode (try the above example - you must have the latest flash player). It was something I was trying to figure out which turns out to be extremely easy to do.Here’s the source file if you’re interested or ever need this.
We all know about Google Docs & Spreadsheets, just like our good old microsoft office but with the convenience of accessing your documents wherever you go where internet connection is available. Aesthetically we know that it can LOOK better, well Buzzword proves that it can.
The fact that the authoring environment is in flash impresses me, not only does it look good, it feels good too with the neat uncluttered environment coupled with some slight animation, displaying only functions that you’ll most likely use (eg. font, paragraph, list & bullets, inserting images and tables, headers & footers, spell check, sharing etc) rather than giving you a whole bunch of controls when you only need half of it.
Although Buzzword is currently under it’s beta stage, it sure looks like a promising application.
Looking at the current state of the creative industry in terms of traditional & digital advertising media, we can safely rank - Newspaper, Television and Web as the following:
1st - Newspaper
2nd - Web
3rd - Television
Here’s an article taken from today’s newspaper:
WHEN it comes to trusted news and information about business, the Web has overtaken television, says the annual Asia-Pacific Stakeholder Study by public relations firm Edelman.
Web-based media, however, still trail newspapers, according to the survey of 1,050 business leaders by Harris Interactive in July and August. Analysing the results, Mr Alan Vander Molen, president of Edelman Asia-Pacific, said: “The Web is no longer an alternative to mainstream media … The key point for business is not that the Web is a source of information, it is that Web-based media are a source of dialogue with senior business executives,” he said.
Further underscoring the influence of the Web, respondents said they would turn to a company’s website more often than any other source for information about that company. Next, they would turn to friends working at the firm, the newspapers, business blogs and finally to local broadcast media.
Mr VanderMolen sees this progression underscoring “a broader trend in the democratisation of media and information”.
“Consumers of news and information are increasingly sceptical and discerning; they want to talk back to the source of the info, not simply consume it.”
I came across this story from a random site, really inspiring and reminds us how our years of experience, the countless trials and errors, knowledge that we accumulated and our efficiency, have often been overlooked with regards to the cost of a project.
Story:
Legend has it that Pablo Picasso was sketching in the park when a bold woman approached him.
“It’s you — Picasso, the great artist! Oh, you must sketch my portrait! I insist.”
So Picasso agreed to sketch her. After studying her for a moment, he used a single pencil stroke to create her portrait. He handed the women his work of art.
“It’s perfect!” she gushed. “You managed to capture my essence with one stroke, in one moment. Thank you! How much do I owe you?”
“Five thousand dollars,” the artist replied.
“B-b-but, what?” the woman sputtered. “How could you want so much money for this picture? It only took you a second to draw it!”
To which Picasso responded, “Madame, it took me my entire life.”
Would like to share this very nifty online storage website, where you can store 1GB of files, organised into your own personalised folders. The catch is that there will be a generated weblink for every uploaded file, which means you can send the link to your clients/friends for them to download the file (zip, image, mp3 or whatever…) and it’s FREE, of course unless you use the pay service which gives you more storage space, but personally 1GB is quite huge already, better than if you send files via the very famous yousendit which offers only 100MB with no option to organise your files although it’s also free.
I’m giving this BOX a try.
